Multimodal Project Proposal

My critical question dealt with technologies affects on the social skills of today's youth. For this project I am going to focus on teenagers, and how their heavy use of social media affects their face to face interactions.

I want the piece to be lighthearted and joking while getting to the point. Teenagers love social media for its trendy and viral aspect, and things that go vial are often funny. So I feel playing off that would be great. For my audience I will be focusing on those teenagers that use social mediums for the bulk of their interaction, specifically high-schoolers, between the age of 15-19. I want to compose a video, but do not currently have the time nor resources to make what I would like, so I believe I will make an advertising campaign for an app that only allows the user to use social media for an hour total a day. I will use a PowerPoint to show the positives of this "app" while using statistics on teenager time using social media. I will put a YouTube video in that adds to my message. I will also make a twitter page that advertises the app and make up mock flyers for it as well.

  1. Hi Tony,
This is a very clever idea! I think you can do a lot with it. I'm wondering though, about the power point presentation as that doesn't seem like a genre high schoolers would likely interact with much or be compelled by. What if you designed the app itself? Would that be doable? I mean, I assume you don't have the time (and possibly not the skills to design the actual app) but you could create a mock-ups of what the app would look like and do, sort of like what you see when you look at an app description in the app store with the screenshots of what several of the app functions look like.
Regardless of what you decide,do you have model texts in mind for this marketing campaign?
